This year, Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) has supported the "Macau Energy - Saving Week 2020" event hosted by the Energy Industry Development Office of the Macau Special Administrative Region Government for the 13th consecutive year. As one of the co - organizers of this event, all faculty and staff of MUST actively responded to the "Turn Off the Lights for One Hour" and "Casual Summer" activities, jointly saving energy, reducing emissions, and supporting environmental protection.

MUST actively supported energy conservation and emission reduction through practical actions. This included responding to the organizer's suggestion to turn off non - essential lights in 9 university buildings for one hour starting at 8:30 p.m. on June 15; calling on faculty and staff to participate in the lights - off event at home that evening; adjusting the indoor air - conditioning system temperature to maintain at no lower than 25°C during the "Casual Summer" event; and under the premise of not affecting professional image, faculty and staff of the university wore casual clothing to work, jointly creating an energy - saving culture of casual work attire.

Although affected by the COVID - 19 pandemic, the university's efforts in promoting energy conservation did not stop. On June 16, while strengthening campus epidemic prevention measures to ensure environmental safety, Vice - Rector Tang Jiale, Vice - Rector Pang Chuan, Vice - Rector Kuang Yinghua, and Assistant Vice - Rector Sun Jianrong led representatives from schools and administrative units to wear the colorful T - shirts of the university and schools, practicing what they preached and jointly advocating environmental protection concepts such as energy conservation and emission reduction.

MUST's school leaders leading faculty and staff to advocate environmental protection concepts

In recent years, MUST has strongly supported environmental protection and promoted the development of green energy. In 2019, the newly completed Comprehensive Teaching Building R of the university was designed based on the concept of green environmental protection in terms of overall planning and single - building design. In terms of overall planning, on the premise of not changing the reasonable layout mode of the university's overall development and meeting the usage functions of the new building, scientific planning was carried out to reserve sufficient land space for the future development of the university; hard paving was minimized, and more greening trees and shrubs were planted. In terms of single - building design, the exterior wall used recyclable "perforated" metal aluminum plate materials, making full use of natural lighting and natural ventilation to reduce the usage rate of electrical equipment; lighting mainly used LED lights with the characteristics of energy - saving, long - life, and environmental protection; through intelligent design, the use of elevators was controlled, and lighting was controlled according to daily time needs; the air - conditioning was automatically turned on and off and the air - conditioning volume was adjusted according to the actual temperature, humidity, and wind conditions in the space, ensuring the sustainable development of the new building in all aspects.
