​​The Sustainable Development Institute at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) and Macau Tongmin Clean Energy have formally entered into a strategic cooperation agreement to advance sustainable energy initiatives.​

On October 11, the Institute of Sustainable Development at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) and Macau Tongmin Clean Energy Co., Ltd. held a cooperation signing ceremony for the "Investigation and Research on the Implementation of District Cooling in Macau" in Room A501 of the university. Director Liu Chengkun of the Institute of Sustainable Development and Executive Director Wang Yong of Macau Tongmin Clean Energy Co., Ltd. signed on behalf of the two cooperating parties. Vice - Rector Pang Chuan of MUST, Minister Ma Xiuling of the Planning and Business Department of SPIC Zhuhai Hengqin Thermal Power Co., Ltd., Project Manager Yang Guohua of Macau Tongmin Clean Energy Co., Ltd., Director Zhang Junhong of the Industry - University - Research Expansion Office of MUST, and members of the project team witnessed the signing.

Vice - Rector Pang of MUST stated that the cooperation between the Institute of Sustainable Development and Macau Tongmin Clean Energy Co., Ltd. reflects the importance of making greater use of clean energy for the sustainable development of society. District cooling is a cooling method that uses a centrally - located large - scale cooling station to supply chilled water to cooling - demanding units within a certain area. As a public utility in the city, district cooling can provide green, environmentally friendly, high - quality, and reliable cooling services, which helps to reduce the operating costs of the city.

Executive Director Wang of Macau Tongmin Clean Energy Co., Ltd. pointed out that he hopes to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the current situation of cooling supply in Macau through the research capabilities of MUST, analyze the feasibility of implementing district cooling in Macau, and put forward policy suggestions for its implementation.

Director Liu of the Institute of Sustainable Development at MUST said that this research aims to analyze and predict the cooling demand in Taipa and the future new urban areas of Macau, and provide basic information for the establishment of a district cooling system. The Institute of Sustainable Development will fully organize, coordinate, plan, and manage the research work of the project, and invite scholars with rich experience in industrial economics, statistical and econometric analysis, law, and market research to join the research team of the project, and do their best to complete the project successfully.
